This is the first book published under The Calistro Prize. The Calistro Prize was set up in 2011 by Calistro Consultants Ltd, UK to encourage and award writers of children and young adult books in Malaysia. The judges for the first award in 2012 were led by Mr Abdul Wahab, Director of the National Book Council of Malaysia, with fellow judges, Mr Khor Ewe Ping, bestselling author and publisher of Odonata Publications, specialising in Chinese YA books; Mr Yusof Gajah, prominent artist and award winning children's book writer and illustrator; and Mr Peter Duke, author and editor. The manuscripts submitted were judged based on the plot, language, characterisation as well as being a unique Malaysian story. The first prize winner, Master and Apprentice, beat 27 other submissions.
