In the Preface, Imam Abdullah Alwi Alhaddad said, “The righteous Sheikh of integrity and intelligent understanding, `AbdurRahman ibn Abdullah `Abbad, has requested me to answer several questions which he committed to writing and presented to me in the town of Shibam after my visit to the great gnostic Sheikh Said bin Isa al-Amudi and to other people of virtue, both living and dead, in those regions.” Shibam is a town to the west of Tarim in the Hadhramaut Valley.
The “Gift for the Seeker” is a collection of the answers to the Sheikh Abbad questions.
